Greetings,
I am Kay Kopit, a
woman passionate about sharing my stories of recovery. I am introducing
myself and welcoming you to this column. It is a tiny corner of the
universe where I shall relate many of the experiences I have had on my
journey to wellness. I hope some of what you read will be inspiring and
will help motivate you to your own healing.
I don’t mean to
gloat but I am enjoying the gift of life. I am in awe of my place in the
universe and glory in the magnificence of humanity. This atmosphere of
serenity has come from deep psychological introspection. I was deeply
troubled having spent 40 years depressed in codependent, addictive and
dysfunctional relationships. I chose an alcoholic family to experience
pain and suffering. I entered this wounded world as you did, with the
intention of changing these destructive patterns, learning to love myself
and becoming whole.
I believe this is
our collective mission, as a fellowship of souls, to heal. We can do it!
The time is now. I am being guided to awaken people to face the truth.
We are ready to open our eyes to the disease of denial and embrace the
empowering experiences of our conscious journey. We can love; we will
love, for we are loving beings. Our hearts are open now more than ever
before in our history.
Where do we start?
One way is by storytelling. I have told my story of living in a
codependent relationship for 12 years in a dramatic narrative, “I
Survived: One Woman’s Journey of Self Healing and Transformation” on
DVD. When we share a tale with someone it can be transformative and
therapeutic. Will you find the positive in one of your debilitating
experiences and then talk about it with a friend today? It is liberating
to stop hiding and pretending because we feel ashamed. Will you make the
effort to see the good that came from a bad situation? This is growth.
Take a moment and
view the planet as a large ball of energy. See all of the earth’s
inhabitants as tiny cells within this sphere. Visualize us as one entity
rather than separate individuals. Right now this form is rather dark and
sick. But, slowly bits of light are emerging and soon this brilliance
will spread to each and every person who is willing to let go and open to
healing. We are in this together, we are not alone. I have made the
commitment to live a well balanced life. What about you?

and 12 Concepts for World Service, but not limited to only AA-sanctioned material (such as The Holy Bible, The Koran, The Upanishads, etc.). Recovery Times is not affiliated nor approved with or by any 12 Step organizations.
Recovery Times publishes only each author's opinions or positions on all matters, and doesn't necessarily agree or disagree with anyone on anything. Our Principles and Protocols are expressed beautifully in
