All Or Nothing
The reality of the Third Step
I turned my will and my life over to the care of God!

Have you ever had a crisis in your life in which you deliberately, earnestly, and recklessly abandoned everything?  It is a crisis of the will.

You may come to that point many times externally, but it will amount to nothing.  The true deep crisis of abandonment, or total surrender, is reached internally, not externally.  The giving up of only external things may actually be an indication of your being in bondage.

Have you deliberately committed your will to God?  Is it a transaction of the will, not of emotion; any positive emotion that results is simply a superficial blessing arising out of the transaction.  If you focus your attention on the emotion, you will never make the transaction.  Do not ask God what the transaction is to be, but make the determination to surrender your will regarding whatever you see, whether it is in the shallow or the deep, profound places internally.

If you have heard God's voice on the waves of the sea, you can let your convictions and your consistency take care of themselves by concentrating on maintaining your intimate relationship to Him.

Meditation:

Today my emotions will not dictate my actions.  I will appreciate my emotions and will not discount them.  Instead I will experience them and understand that they are part of me.  However, I will choose to deliberately committed myself to God's will.  I will ask Him for the "Power to carry that out" despite the emotions I may feel to the contrary.

Recovery Times has but one purpose and goal, and that is to carry the message of 12-Step Recovery  -- as written and practiced in its founding organization's (AA's) unaltered 12 Steps, 12 Traditions, and 12 Concepts for World Service, but not limited to only AA-sanctioned material (such as The Holy Bible, The Koran, The Upanishads, etc.). Recovery Times is not affiliated nor approved with or by any 12 Step organizations.

Recovery Times publishes only each author's opinions or positions on all matters, and doesn't necessarily agree or disagree with anyone on anything. Our Principles and Protocols are expressed beautifully in the Prayer of St. Francis (p.99, 12-Steps and 12-Traditions).
